Marcelle G. says, "True experts! SoFlo knows the SAT incredibly well and was able to pass on lessons and tricks to my son who improved 310 points on his SAT from a 1240 to a 1550 over the course of 4 months. SoFlo gave my son a ton of curriculum. He needed a set structure and study plan to succeed, otherwise it would be hard to keep him focused. Every week he was studying from real SAT past exams, a free video course, and plenty of 1-on-1 tutoring to give him the skills to be break 1500. My son is very bright but not confident, and his tutor Brian worked with him to gain confidence and have the right mindset for success. SoFlo has changed the direction of my son’s life and now he will have so many more opportunities. I’m so thankful to have found and his team. They are amazing!!" Read more

***We currently only offer online tutoring. Additionally, please select only one SoFlo tutor, as we incur costs for each tutor you choose.*** Hey there, Masaraat! Fun fact: I lead the SoFlo Tutors college admissions counseling team! I love working with students! The most rewarding part of tutoring for me is when a new concept “clicks” with a student - their excitement is contagious, and it’s a privilege to be able to help them reach that point! On a more personal level: I am kind, friendly, and patient! I partner with students on a one-on-one basis in the SAT and ACT through SoFlo Tutors, my tutoring agency. I scored in the top percentile o

I am a college student, majoring in Civil Engineering and my minor is Mathematics. I have a lot of knowledge in Math and Science classes, so I would like to help people who are struggling in those courses. I can help students in one on one tutoring for their classes, I can do their assignments if they are running out of time, providing the work and ensuring a result above 90%. Students might require online tutoring or in person. I have been tutoring students in other platforms for over two years. Out of all students that I have tutored, 50 % of them are returned costumers, and 100% of them reached their goal, either to get assignments done,

Ja Yoon L. says, "Aster is a superstar! My kid has been struggling with SAT Math and AP Psychology for a while but now that is long gone. Aster has years of experience in tutoring, and quickly identified on-going issues in the subjects. Not settling with resolving questions from recent tests, Aster figured out fundamental improvements by clarifying confusing chapters and theories. I was skeptical about personal tutoring at first, but my child is much more confident in applying to his dream college now, and we’re beyond satisfied with Aster's classes. We even talk about majoring in Psychology! I would 100% recommend this master tutor." Read more

Your MCAT Prep Classes questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Tutors.

How much does an MCAT prep course cost?

MCAT prep courses can cost between $1,500 and $7,000, on average, depending on the course type and duration. There are three main types of MCAT prep courses:

  • Self-paced courses – These courses allow you to learn at your own pace and on your own schedule. They typically include video lessons, practice questions, and full-length practice exams. Self-paced courses cost between $0 and $1,500.
  • Live online courses – These courses provide online instruction in real time. You can interact with the instructor and other students during class. Live online courses cost between $2,000 and $6,500, on average.
  • Classroom courses – These courses include around 120 hours of classroom instruction with 4 to 6 subject matter experts to cover all the MCAT topics. Classroom courses cost between $2,500 and $7,000, or more.

The type of MCAT prep course that’s best for you depends on your learning style and budget. If you are a self-motivated learner and have the time to study at your own pace, a self-paced course may be a good option for you. If you prefer live instruction and want to interact with other students, a live online course may be a better choice. If you want the most structured and comprehensive learning experience, a classroom course may be your best choice.

What is the MCAT?

The MCAT is a standardized computer-based test that most medical schools require for admission. It is administered year-round at Pearson VUE testing centers worldwide. Medical schools use MCAT scores to assess a student's preparedness for the challenges of medical school.

The 6-hour, 15-minute test has four multiple-choice sections that evaluate a student's knowledge of chemistry and physics, biology and biochemistry, psychology and social behavior, and critical reasoning skills.

How long is the MCAT?

The MCAT is a full-day exam that lasts for 7 hours and 30 minutes, including readubg if test instructions and taking breaks between sections. While these breaks are optional, it is recommended to take them. The actual testing time is 6 hours and 15 minutes, divided into 4 sections.

What is a good MCAT score?

A good MCAT score depends on the medical school you want to attend. The median MCAT score is 500, on a scale of 472 to 528. Top-ranked medical schools typically have higher than average score requirements, while less competitive schools accept students with lower MCAT scores.

Most students aim to score at or above the average score of admitted students at their target schools. The higher the average score at your school of choice, the higher you will need to score to improve your chance of admission.

What is on the MCAT?

The MCAT has four sections that test your science knowledge:

  • Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems (95 minutes, 59 questions): This section covers biology, organic chemistry, and inorganic chemistry concepts.
  • Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems (95 minutes, 59 questions): This section covers biology, organic and inorganic chemistry, and physics concepts.
  • Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior (95 minutes, 59 questions): This section covers psychology, sociology, and biology concepts.
  • Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills (90 minutes, 53 questions): This section tests your comprehension, analysis, and reasoning skills by asking you to analyze information provided in written passages.

How hard is the MCAT?

The difficulty of the MCAT depends on your preparation level, knowledge of the test material, and test-taking skills. The test is challenging because it is a full-day exam that covers a wide range of scientific topics.

The MCAT is high stakes because your score can affect your admission to medical school. This pressure to perform well and the limited time to complete the test make it one of the most difficult exams you will ever take.

How many times can you take the MCAT?

You can take the MCAT up to 7 times in your lifetime, but only 3 times in a single year or 4 times in two years. No-shows and voided attempts count towards these limits.

A voided attempt is when you choose not to have your score counted at the end of the exam. Students do this when they feel they performed poorly and don't want that score on their permanent record. The test attempt counts towards the annual limit, but the score is not recorded for medical schools to see.

How to save money on the MCAT?

Here are some ways to save on the MCAT:

  • Apply for financial aid through the AAMC Fee Assistance Program.
  • Keep your original test date and testing site to avoid rescheduling fees. If you must make changes, do it as early as possible to save money.
  • Use free or low-cost study materials instead of expensive prep courses or private tutors.
  • Prepare your best to ensure a good score on your first attempt. Test attempts are expensive and limited.

How do I choose an MCAT prep course?

When looking for an MCAT prep course, consider the following factors:

  • Choose a prep course that fits your learning style. Some courses include video lectures, while others have live lectures where you can ask questions of the instructor.
  • Pick from classes that fit your budget. Be sure to find a course that offers the features and support you need.
  • Look at programs that fit your schedule. Some programs allow you to study at your own pace, while others offer a specific schedule.
  • Find a program with experienced and qualified instructors. Read reviews of different courses to see what other students had to say about the instructors.

TutorsPro is a life savor! There are so many positives! First, their tutors are very flexible with their time. There are numerous occasions where I need more time to work with my tutor or I have a conflict with a session, but the tutors always work with my schedule to make sure I never feel behind in class. They are willing to sacrifice extra time out of their life to make room for students to make sure they feel comfortable in any subject. Additionally, they are very easy to communicate with. I have never had a problem where we are not on the same page with session times. They are very happy to communicate with us and they always make sure there is room for a session. Lastly, most importantly, they always teach in a way where all students can understand. My grades would significantly be lower without a tutor in TutorsPro. I highly recommend TutorsPro if students want to be successful in a specific class.

I love the one on one instruction. After coming out of a pandemic my 10 year old daughter really needed a kind adult to interact with. To give her back the confidence she had before to speak up in person.

As a mother of a sophomore in high school, I found the switch to a digital SAT a bit overwhelming. But, getting some guidance with the transition was incredibly helpful. It made a significant difference in ensuring my kid felt prepared. Thank you for your support during this time.
